The Power of Scent
As the first sense we experience, our sense of smell provides an innate and instantaneous link directly to the limbic area of our brain where our memories and emotions are processed.
Unfortunately, it’s also the most underrated and undervalued of all of our senses.
However, once we know how to use it purposefully, our sense of smell can play a positive, powerful and important role in our daily lives.
With the intentional use of particular aromas, we can easily harness its power and create rituals which support our emotional wellbeing, our productivity at work and our creative processes.
Take a moment now to think about a scent that you know will make you feel calm or more relaxed.
What instantly springs to mind?
Is it the light floral notes of lavender, the deep smoky tone of Vetiver or perhaps the light citrussy joy of Bergamot?
Or maybe those aromas that help you concentrate during that post lunchtime - mid-afternoon slump at work would be more helpful. The freshness of Peppermint, the herbal focus that comes with Rosemary or perhaps the clarity that the zing of Lemon can offer?
There are so many ways to create mini moments of self care, whether that’s through room diffusion, the use of personal Pulse Point Oils, by sprinkling a few drops of essential oils in the shower tray for steam inhalation or even taking a few moments to breathe in the scent of your Facial Oil before massaging it into your skin.
How could you incorporate aromatherapy into your own day?
If you’d like to find out how you can intentionally create aromatherapy moments in your own life, you can either book a Personal Blending session, take a look at the Essential Oil blends and Pulse Point Oils I provide on my wellbeing page or perhaps consider commissioning your own customised Bespoke Blend.
